Mini Art Exhibition

Above is a photograph taken in my Florida Room, of a collection of miniature art that I entered today for exhibition purposes. The entries could be no larger than 4"x5". Judging for the show is tomorrow. I thought you might be interested in my Caritas Creations and a description of each since they are so tiny.
Painting #1 "Opportunity for Silence" This is a painting of a sailboat paused and quiet in the water, much like we are when focused on patients who need to have a listener.
Painting #2 "Caring Arts" a terracotta cup of Geraniums, green plants are therapeutic and aid recovery. They also make a big difference in the atmosphere of a patients room.
Painting #3 "Compassionate Forgiveness" a floral arrangement, perhaps an extended method for strengthening a professional relationship or developing mutual understanding to a love one, Painting #4 "Inviting Creative Emergence" dancing Tulips, creativity, food for the soul and stamina.

Featured Artist Patty Magee
On the globe and the celestial sphere Latitude and Longitude are very significant. You may want to tell someone where you are. But sometimes where you are is not where you would like to be. The Art of Patty Magee takes us to a place of relaxation and composure. It could be south of the border or most any costal region. Allow the tropical ambiance to provide an escape, a mini vacation if you will.
Patty works from the premise that Art is healing for all of us. As a Nurse and Artist, each profession requires creativity. Research shows us that creativity has a positive effect on our immune system and can improve our health. Sharing this with others from both professional capacities is her desire.
Patty is a graduate of UNF with a Bachelors degree in Behavioral Medicine and Studio Arts. She was the recipient of a Fine Arts grant and has exhibited at UNF gallery, other venues in Florida and internationally.
Please sit back, take a deep breath, and reduce your stress with the visual images provided by Patty, as you enjoy the cuisine selected from many Latitudes.
My alter ego is Poppy the Clown
I have been providing Art Camps in my community for children. I would like to review this with more detail as it relates to the Caring Science. As inspired by the institute of HeartMath I take on the character of a "Nurse Clown". I wear a pink wig , a stethoscope with a funnel at the end and use my grandchildren's name for me... POPPY. My personal contact with the children is through my stethoscope when I listen to see if they have a "Happy Heart" . I tell them what their heart is singing. I always hear a musical melody that brings a smile to their face. Children are our hope for a heart centered future.

One of the highlights of this evening’s First Wednesday Art Walk will be the debut of a unique work at The Art Center Cooperative Inc. Sixteen of the member artists each created a 36-inch by 24-inch canvas in their own style. When the panels are assembled, the “Mosaic” creates a 16-foot by 6-foot representation of the Downtown skyline as seen from the Southbank. Artists Patty Magee (left) and Scott Morris put the finishing touches on the installation. Magee said the mosaic will be on exhibit until May 6 or until it is purchased. “We think it would make a great addition to a company’s lobby,” she added. The Art Center Cooperative Gallery on West Adams Street is open during each Art Walk and other times by appointment. For more information, call 355-1757.

PATTY MAGEE
Would you believe it? Full time job, full-time wife to Woody for thirty some years, mom and grand mom, part-time artist and Patty Magee still finds time to work on her Master’s Degree in Art in Healing, her formal background and education are in Studio Art and Behavioral Medicine.
Patty is one of those decidedly extraordinary women who has found her calling and who is working hard at reaching her goal which is to bring culture and art back into the hospital realm; providing a way to bring added purpose to someone’s life and helping them to feel as an individual again. She feels that creativity in any art form definitely has its place in the health care field having the capacity to heal the body, mind and spirit and likes to use that in her position as a Registered Nurse at Baptist Medical Center. She says “As Medical Professionals we think of the mind and body but all too often neglect the spirit. My interest now lies in healing the spirit of individuals” and feels this would be beneficial not only to patients but to the family and staff as well. “A creative mind set actually affects your immune system and is totally therapeutic . The spirit has to be healed before the patient will get better. It’s all integrated but we’ve gotten sterile an oftentimes forget the humanness… “
After high school and college, Patty began taking art classes for personal enjoyment and “just to feel good.” Working in watercolor, acrylics and sometimes oil, she is motivated by networking and working with other artists. As a long-time member she has been a great asset to JWS, always willing to lend a helping hand when needed and for the past three years has been assistant membership chair of the Membership Committee. She is also a member of The Art Center, JCVA and the Society of Arts in Health Care and is currently represented by five galleries in Florida. At present, she is net working with the people from the Art Medicine Program at UF Shands Hospital in hopes of starting a Healing Art Program.

Why paint landscapes?
Nature untouched by man has always opened a passion for Art in me. The design elements in nature are flawless, combine that with the natural color and light of the outdoors and I am ready to paint. Breathing in the clean salt air of the ocean and hearing the sound of waves coming to shore are fuel to my creative energy. I think that is why most of my interest lie in seascapes.
